Dataset Description (Abstract): The dataset is of transcriptions of the historic borrowers' registers of 18 Scottish Libraries. Included are: Name of Book Borrowed, Name of Borrower, Dates of Issue and Return, Author, Author dates, Life dates of borrowers, Details of editions borrowed and links to catalogues both contemporary and modern. Dataset Description (TOC): The data reveals what people borrowed from 18 historic libraries across Scotland from 1750-1830. Data contains the borrowings of lead miners in Dumfries and Galloway, clergymen in Dunblane and Dumfries, advocates in Edinburgh, university students, professors and townspeople in the historic university towns of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, St Andrews and Glasgow, and what Daniel Defoe called the ‘middling sort’ of people in Selkirk, Wigtown, Kirkwall, Haddington, and rural Perthshire.
