Disproportionate burden

Issues with our data files

While the HTML pages of the website generally demonstrate high levels of accessibility (e.g. DataSTORRE’s main pages, single views, lists, content elements, etc.), the file content that the website makes available is not fully accessible.

As the website is an open access repository for research data, the principal content made available to users are data in a variety of file formats.

Most data files are likely to be complex; be stored in a variety of different formats; use specialist formats and/or proprietary formats and will not be fully accessible to screen reader software and are likely to demonstrate other accessibility issues.

We believe that making the stored files and newly submitted files fully accessible would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.

If you require any files or documents in an alternative format please contact our Open Access mailbox.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The web site does not hold content that falls outside the scope of the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

In order to improve the accessibility of our website, we will continue to review the accessibility using automated tools and manual testing procedures where necessary.

The University has made an institutional commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and setup an Accessibility working group. The working group is raising awareness of the accessibility regulations and coordinating the creation of guidance and training materials for University staff (who submit files to the website).

We will be updating this statement to reflect our progress on rectifying the failures discovered and will provide an outline of any forthcoming resolutions where possible.
